King & Queen of Cliffs

Boat & Hiking Tour from Ísafjörður

-A day's hike up to the magnificent cliffs of Hornbjarg-

Hornvík is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places in Iceland. It is surrounded by two of the three largest bird cliffs in Europe, has a mystic remoteness and magnificent cliffs. When millions of birds shout as loud as they can, one forgets the noise of the traffic and normal life. It is as far away as it can be and the term silence gets a new meaning.

Before stepping onto dry land the boat stops for a moment to view the cliffs of Hælavíkurbjarg, a cliff that reaches almost vertically an altitude of 4-500 metrers. Stepping ashore on the other side of the bay, you hike up to the top of Hornbjarg cliff (537 meters). The artic foxes are nearby and might appear without notice. The tour takes about 10-12 hours, the stay in Hornvík is around 6-7 hours, spent walking and enjoying all the magnificent things that catch your eyes.

This hike is for people in moderate shape. The hiking disctance is about 6 km on rough and on parts steep grounds.

Additionally you can order a fresh and homemade lunchpackage consisting of two bread buns, a power bar and a muffin for 2.500 ISK each.
