There are several ways of getting to the Westfjords.
Driving is the most common way tourists use to explore the Westfjords. There are several ways of getting to the Westfjords from Reykjavík.
Reykhólar – The drive is 225 km and takes approximately 3 hours.
Patreksfjörður – The drive is 397 km and takes approximately 5 hours.
Hólmavík - The drive is 233 km and takes approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.
If you drive from Reykjavík through Búðardalur, west to Flókalundur and up north it is 456 km and takes approximately 5 hours and 20 minutes. Note: There are gravel roads on route, for example on the mountain passes.
If you drive from Reykjavík through Hólmavík to Ísafjördur it is 455 km and takes approximately 5 hours and 20 minutes.
It takes about half an hour to drive from Ísafjörður to the villages in Ísafjarðarbær (Þingeyri, Flateyri, Suðureyri, Súðavík, Bolungarvík).
The Ferry Baldur
Driving from Reykjavík to Stykkishólmur, take the ferry Baldur across the fjord Breiðafjörður and drive to your destination from Brjánslækur (172 km to Stykkishólmur, 2,5 hours in ferry).
Brjánslækur to Reykhólar – 227 km, 2 hours.
Brjánslækur to Patreksfjörður – 30 km, 25 mins.
Brjánslækur via Reykhólar to Hólmavík – 260 km, 3 hours and 20 mins.
Brjánslækur to Ísafjörður – 144 km, 3 hours.

Air Iceland operates two flights a day from Reykjavík to Ísafjörður, every day all year round. Further info can be found on their webpage: www.airiceland.is.
Eagle Air Iceland operates flights to Bíldudalur and Gjögur.
